About

About Chez Mojo Photo

The intention of this photoblog is to show the evolution of the photos I take. I don't consider myself a pro, or even a very keen amateur, but I absolutley love taking pictures. Recently I've noticed a distinct evolution in the photos that I produce that I think is a reflection of changing knowledge (from reading about photography), changing experiences , and most importantly changing mindsets. I have a very short attention span and as such you'll notice a complete lack of Photoshop on this site. I have nothing against it, but I just like to get the photos off my camera and on my computer for everyone to enjoy :)

If you care who I am (and everyone on the Internet seems to think that eve ryone else does), I am a an American living in the Netherlands as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry (hence the frequent neglect of this site--busy, busy!). Perhaps this website is a reflection of my desire to distract myself from the stress of daily life, but the point here is that I am NOT a photographer. That said, if for some reason you ha ve a question, you can contact me here: ryan (at) chezmojophoto (dot) com

P.S. Please feel free to leave comments, critiques, critisims, or whatever pops into your mind.

Links

Here are a couple of photoblogging links:
  • Pixelpost.org - This is the application that runs this photoblog.
  • Photo.net - Photo.net is a hub for photographers of every level and is an excellent site to learn abou t photography as well as to see some really great pictures.
Additional Links:
  • KenRockwell.com - I have found this site tremendously useful for finding ways of spending money on new toys :) As an engineer, Ken Rockwell has the most useful (i.e., real-world) reviews and co mparisons of seemingly every piece of camera equipment ever made.
  • TrekEarth.com - A great site that breaks photos down by geography. Related sites, treklens and treknature are equally cool.
  • Bryan F. Peterson - This is just his personal website, but he has written a series of really helpful books. My favorites are his books on exposure, composition, and portraits.
  • Brenda Tharp - This is her personal website, but she has written some great books, my favorite being Nature Photography which, besides being full of great pictures, is an interesting walk through the less tangible aspects of photography .
  • Clo's Blog - I'd be remiss if I didn't plug Clotilde's blog after all she is the one that got me (back ) into photography!
  • Boston Camera Club - A great group of people, if you live in Boston and are interested in photography, you should come to a meeting! You can see some of their stuff on their Flickr group pool.
  • Bibble Labs - This is the software I use to "develope" the raw files from my camera to the JPEGs you see here.
  • ShrinkImages - This is a little program I wrote (poorly) in Python for batch resizing photos for uploading to blogs. It has only been tested on *NIX systems.
